Ikaru’s journey started in 2016 as a quintet in Ankara, just friends jamming at home. The first tracks were formed of different musical pasts meeting together at a common basin, which incorporated live jamming in an electronic setting, employing live instrumentation with eclectic beats.
They started to perform in local scenes with raw-psychedelic dub sounds. In time, the band evolved into an electronic duo (Alptuğ Çavuş & Salih Gaferoğlu) and the sound matured into a more refined form. They gained a following in the alternative local scene and performed to wider audiences through adopting an audiovisual form.
They got the blessings of the electronic music giants from Turkey such as Mercan Dede and Islandman. Their latest release was a rework of Mercan Dede’s cult song Dream of Shams.
The album includes three remix versions of three different songs by Mercan Dede & Dexter Crowe, Anatolian Sessions and Netam. For two songs Ikaru collaborated with Barış Demirel who is a renowned trumpet player.
